Where We Stayed in Pitt Meadows
Location: Best Western Plus Pitt Meadows Inn & Suites
Pet Fee: $15 per pet, per night
For a friend's wedding nearby, we recently embarked on a getaway with Markus, looking for a pet-friendly hotel that would accommodate both our needs and Markus' reactivity. Our research led us to the Best Western Plus Pitt Meadows Inn & Suites, where we found a comfortable haven to rest and recharge amidst our travel plans.
Something we always do - if available - is reserve a suite. A suite is like a room within a room, providing a bit of extra space to move around comfortably. More importantly, it provides the extra layer of an additional door to block out the noise from the outside.
It feels as though the hotel typically assigns guests with dogs to rooms on the main floor, which tends to have more foot traffic. While we were initially concerned about our dog's reactivity in a potentially busier area, we were pleasantly surprised that it didn't pose any significant issues during our time there. Admittedly, the room itself wasn't very spacious, but it served its purpose well. At the end of the day, what mattered most was that we all enjoyed a good night's rest and that starts with making sure that Markus' reactivity isn't triggered throughout the night.
Things To Do in Pitt Meadows
Some of these locations and activities aren't located immediately within Pitt Meadows, but we did all these while we were in Pitt Meadows.
Derby Reach Regional Park
Technically in Langley, our visit to Derby Reach Regional Park was a mix of excitement and caution as we navigated the busy park with Markus. Despite the crowds and an off-leash dog park in the area, we found a quiet trail that allowed us to keep a comfortable distance from other visitors and their dogs. Cutting through the Edgewater Bar Campground, we were able to access the Fraser River, where Markus enjoyed a refreshing experience. Overall, the park's natural beauty and ambiance made it a wonderful escape for us.
Pitt River Regional Greenway
The Pitt River Regional Greenway offers a quiet experience along the scenic Pitt River. Stretching over 25 kilometres, the well-maintained pathway takes visitors through lush forests and tranquil wetlands, attracting bird species and a rich variety of wildlife - including mosquitoes. Unfortunately, our experience on the trail was shortened due to a heavy mosquito presence, making visiting during sundown a less ideal choice. The flat and accessible trail caters to walkers, hikers, cyclists and those with strollers or wheelchairs, but the mosquito situation deterred us and other visitors during our time.
Kanaka Creek
Upon arriving at Kanaka Creek Falls in Maple Ridge, we found the falls to be somewhat restricted with a fenced area surrounding the Cliff Falls and scenic viewpoints, limiting both humans and dogs from getting up close. While we found the falls to be underwhelming, the well-maintained trail leading to it provided a peaceful and enjoyable experience for reactive dogs, allowing them to take in the sights and sounds of the forested surroundings. The trail also offered a loop and access to a picnic area, making it a scenic walk in nature for both humans and dogs, despite the restricted views of the falls.
Me-n-Ed's Pizza Parlour
Me-n-Ed's Pizza Parlour is a gem for pizza enthusiasts and our experience with "The Gangster" flavour was nothing short of delightful. As we indulged, we were treated to a burst of flavours and each bite was delicious, leaving us with the desire to return and explore the rest of Me-n-Ed's pizza creations again next time we're in town!
