About the Amphitrite Point Lighthouse Trail

  • Length: 2.6km

  • Traffic: Moderate

  • Route Type: Loop

Welcome to the picturesque Amphitrite Point Lighthouse trail, where scenery and coastal charm await. This delightful trail begins with the Amphitrite Point Lighthouse itself, setting the tone for the rest of the trail. As we ventured along the path, we discovered paths leading down to the beach, allowing us to get up close and personal with the ocean waters.

As you start, don't forget to pause at the lighthouse itself, as it provides an excellent opportunity for some memorable photographs. The striking architecture and stunning backdrop make it a favourite spot for capturing the essence of this coastal gem. Just beyond the lighthouse, the trail starts and it eventually loops back to the parking lot from where you started. In total, this trail was roughly 2.6km and took around 45 minutes to complete (though we spent a lot of time on the beach).

The trail itself was wide enough for us to explore comfortably, even though we encountered a few other dogs along the way. What worked to our benefit were the little nooks along the path. These small hideaways, complete with benches overlooking the view of the ocean, actually served as the perfect spots to step off when dogs were passing by.

While the trail itself was enjoyable, the highlight was undoubtedly access to the beach. As we descended towards the water, we were treated with great views and sounds of the coastal paradise that is the Pacific Northwest. The ability to get nice and close to the water was a refreshing and invigorating experience, allowing us to truly connect with the natural elements. Whether it was dipping our toes in the water or simply taking in the vastness of the ocean, the beach offered a sense of tranquility and joy.

Our Recommendation for Reactive Dogs

We enjoyed this walk although we did come across a few dogs and not all of them were leashed. The path is wide enough, although not in all areas. As we mentioned, it helped to have the nooks along the path, which allowed us to step off of the path to let the other dogs pass by. There were quite a few dogs when we were there, but we managed to avoid them. For that reason, this trail is a bit harder to recommend unless you're going when it's not as busy (we went over the weekend).

In the end, it was the access down to the beach and the water that made this trail for us. There were a few other dogs down there as well, but we walked down a little further to where it was quieter and where we knew the dogs weren't going to run over. After the beach, the rest of the trail didn't offer too much so we'd recommend doubling back to the parking lot after the beach rather than completing the loop.

What we liked about the trail

  • The nooks along the path let us step off and let the other dogs pass by.

  • The lighthouse and the beach (and the rocks) made for really great photos!

What we didn't like about the trail

  • It's wide enough to let other dogs pass by, but there were quite a few dogs on the trail and some were off-leash.
